Introduction

The VU Ambulatory Monitoring System (VU-AMS) is a device used for recording physiological signals, developed by the VU University in Amsterdam. It can record ECG, ICG, skin conductance and accelerometry (body movement).

Availability, support and advice

A VU-AMS device can be borrowed from SOLO through the Helpdesk. The VU-AMS is supported by SOLO, for questions, contact labsupport@fsw.leidenuniv.nl. At the FSW Leiden the BIOPAC and VU-AMS systems are mainly used for recording physiological signals (e.g. ECG, EDA, etc.). VU-AMS' main advantage is that it allows for ambulatory monitoring (see the VU-AMS website for more information).

Software

VU-AMS communication can be integrated in several stimulus presentation software packages. This mainly allows the user to send events from the stimulus presentation software to the VU-AMS device for synchronization purposes. Integration is possible in E-Prime (see E-Prime and VU-AMS), OpenSesame (see VU-AMS and OpenSesame), or other software packages (see here).

VU-AMS data is stored on an SD card in the VU-AMS device. This data can be analyzed using the Data Analysis and Management Software (VU-DAMS). Alternatively, the PhysioData Toolbox can be used for physiological data preprocessing.
