Qualtic Example ID Link
The steps in short, also see the attached GIF (complete information can be found here: https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/survey-flow/standard-elements/passing-information-through-query-strings/):
- Create a publication/distribution link for the survey (single reusable link).
- Append "?ID=[NUMBER]" to this link, replacing the yellow part with the desired number.
- TIP: You can easily create such links in Excel. In the first column, paste the link + "?ID=" and repeat as necessary. In the second column, enter the desired numbers. If you start with a few numbers in sequence, Excel can automatically fill them in. In the third column, concatenate the two.
- In Qualtrics, go to the Survey Flow and create an embedded element named "ID"; leave the value field empty (it will be filled from the URL).
- Optional: To quickly check if it's working, you can pipe ID into one of the questions, as Amber did in her example.
- IMPORTANT: Republish the survey each time you make changes to it.
- Use one of the links and take the survey.
- Afterward, go to the Data & Analysis tab and download the data.
- In the data, there should be a column named ID. In it, you should find the number from the link you used.
Note: If you manually modify existing links with new numbers, for example, if you want to change this link https://leidenuniv.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6hxuKeErUY8C6zA&ID=1 to ID=2, it's not enough to change only the number in the text. What can happen is this: https://leidenuniv.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6hxuKeErUY8C6zA&ID=2 In this link, it seems like ID=2, but if you click on the link, you'll see in the browser that ID still remains at 1. To adjust it correctly, right-click on the link and then select "Edit Hyperlink." The number must be correct in both the "Text to display" and "Address" fields.
