💡 If you do not have access to Insta360 camera, you could also download sample video and audio files from here for the purpose of following this tutorial.

Stitching

The video clips from 360 cameras are split into two files, one for each lens. At our first stop, let’s stitch them together and get a .mp4 file. For clips captured with Insta360 cameras, this is easily done using Insta360 Studio software.

Also, note that Insta360 cameras store any clip in 3 file formats: one .lrv file and two .insv files. You can import any one of these files into Insta360 studio. Trim the video clip as you want and click on export icon at the bottom right corner. On the ‘Export 360 video’ tab, change the encoding format to “ProRes 422”. You could also change the file name and location here. Finally, click on ‘Start Export’.

Mediainfo (optional)

Drag and drop any media file into mediaInfo software to read all of its properties, before using it on Premiere Pro.

Video on timeline -> Ambisonic in VR settings

Open a ‘New Project’ in Premiere Pro. Before diving into the editing, lets first set the project settings right to use ambisonic sound.

  • Navigate to ‘Settings’ under Edit (Windows) or Premiere Pro (mac), and then select 'Preferences'.
  • In the drop-down menu, select 'Timeline'.
  • In the 'Timeline' settings, locate the 'Multichannel Mono Media' section.
  • Change the default setting to 'Adaptive'.
  • Click 'OK' to save your changes.

Synchronizing video w/ audio

Note: This works only if you have clapped or used a clapperboard before starting to shoot the video to create a spike.

Select all the mediafiles on the Timeline and right-click on one of them to select 'Synchronize'. In the pop-up window, ensure that 'Audio' is selected and then click 'OK'. Premiere Pro will then automatically align the clips so that the audio matches the video. Cut the loose ends on both the sides of the media file as in the video below.
